Who We Are

In September 18, 2004 Tropical Storm Jeanne devastated the town of Gonaives,  the sixth largest city of Haiti. Over three thousand people died due to the unresponsive and unprepared local government agencies. International response was slow and the Haitian community abroad could  not responded effectively because of a lack of cohesion.

As a result, in June, 2005, a group of retired and active duty soldiers stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.  established  HACAOT. Through a series of meeting under the leadership of Alain M. and Primerose Ferere, Jean Tancrede, Athalie andWilfrid Desire, and  Raymond Obas.  The Haitian American and Caribbean Organization of Texas (HACAOT) initiated a series of fund-raising activities with the objective of helping our community and  our  country in case of disaster.

Two years later the organization reached a new dimension once we met Mrs. Mary Fargen, Raymond and Donna Moon, and Steve Weis. Together we started to prepared a plan of action and put together a medical team which since then has been going to Haiti every year to provide free medical services.

Before too long,  our organization was recognized as one of the organizations really making a positive impact in Haiti. Since January, 2010, after our immediate and well-organized  response to the  earthquake in Haiti that killed over 300,000 people, HACAOT, has been contacted by many other organizations asking us to assist or team with them. Our reputation for  professionalism and proven experience has enabled the scope of our services to continue to grow.
